JAMMU: Principal Secretary, Culture and Tribal Affairs, Suresh Kumar Gupta, today inaugurated a 7-day photo exhibition by noted journalist Sunny Dua at Kala Kendra.
The event, titled as “Resilient Heritage”, is being organized by the Kala Kendra Society, Jammu with theme “Heritage of Jammu and Kashmir”.
Sunny Dua, speaking at the inaugural function, shared insights from his decade-long effort to document hundreds of heritage buildings, sites and monuments. He told that about 150 pantographs are on display across five galleries in Kala Kendra, featuring both popular heritage sites and lesser-known buildings, including private Havelis.
Suresh Kumar Gupta praised the exhibition for showcasing the J&K’s rich cultural inheritance. He highlighted that these sites and buildings connect us to our historical roots. He also mentioned about government’s expedited efforts being initiated to restore numerous heritage buildings including the Mubarak Mandi Complex, a significant portion of which is expected to be restored to its pristine glory within the next few months.
The Principal Secretary commended Sunny Dua for his meticulous documentation of region’s rare heritage and recalled his association with the senior journalist.
Kuwarani Ritu Singh, founder Chairperson DPS and MHS Social and Educational foundation, stated that exhibited photographs representing rich heritage of Jammu and Kashmir should be documented in a coffee table book. She also assured all support in preserving and documenting the precious cultural heritage of the region.
Dr. Javaid Rahi, Secretary of the Kala Kendra Society, stated that the event’s primary objective is to promote a deeper understanding, appreciation and awareness about the monuments, cultural sites besides promoting heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
The event was attended by eminent Dogri writer Lalit Magotra, noted educationists Veena Handa , Vijay Lakshmi Gupta, Ritupal Singh, Sangeeta Sharma, Arvind Kotwal, Shivani Khajouria, Dr. Vikram Handa, Manesha Malhotra and Sirvinderjeet Singh along with journalists, artists and other distinguished guests.
Dr. Mitali Gupta conducted the programme and presented vote of thanks.
