Week-long Mental Health Awareness Programme concludes at Amar Singh College

SRINAGAR: The week long Mental Health awareness programme organized by the Department of Psychology and Psychological Counselling Cell of Amar Singh College on the theme, “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right” from 5th of October culminated today.

A plethora of events were organised around the theme to educate students about the right to mental health.

The programme commenced with a special lecture arranged for the students and woven around the theme of Mental Health Awareness: Rights and Duties.

The curtain was also brought up on board of gratitude for students, guests and faculties by Prof. (Dr) Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Principal Amar Singh College and Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges to share what they are thankful for. He also launched the pledge campaign to learn about mental illness to talk about it and to contribute to fostering mental health and well-being for all.

During the programme inspiring speeches on mental health were delivered by the students belonging to the college. A rally was also organised within the campus with a purpose to educate the students about the issues of mental health and also with a purpose to emphasise the need to talk about these issues.

Poster making and slogan writing competition was also part of the week-long events in which the students from different departments participated with great enthusiasm.

Today, a renowned clinical psychologist, Dr. Aijaz Bhat shared with students his views on trauma and social media addiction and the repercussions it has on mental health.

Adiba, Mehreen and Soliha, students of the Department of Psychology, presented a case study titled, “You Can Heal”, on the occasion, which was highly appreciated by the audience. Students from the Department of Psychology also showcased their talent by performing “A Tale of OSD”, a play based on mental health issues. The play mesmerized the audience with its performances and educative content.

The programme culminated with the distribution of certificates to participating students by Prof. Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Head Department of Zoology, Dr Ulfat Jan, Head Department of Psychology, Prof. Firdous Ahmad War and Prof Shams-un-Nisa, Assistant Professors, Department of Psychology.
