ADC flags off Swachhata Karvaan van

SHOPIAN: Swachhata Karvaan, an intensive sanitation and hygiene awareness was today launched by the District Administration Shopian in collaboration with Director Rural Sanitation J&K at District Administrative Complex Arhama, Shopian.

The event started with the welcome address by Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, Manzoor Ahmad, where he elaborated on the objective of Swachhta Karwan.

A pledge taking ceremony was also organized and the Nodal Officer, Muzaffer Majeed administered the oath and motivated the participants/students to involve themselves in cleanliness activities.

A series of events were held on the occasion including Nukkad Natak, Painting Competition, Debate and Quiz Competition.

Swachhata Karvaan vehicle was flagged-off by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Shopian, Yar Ali Khan to spread the sanitation and hygiene awareness in the all blocks across the district.

The program aims to ensure that the open defecation free behaviours are sustained and that solid and liquid waste management facilities are accessible.

The Mission is moving towards the next Phase II of SBMG i.e ODF-Plus. ODF Plus activities under Phase II of Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) will reinforce ODF behaviours and focus on providing interventions for the safe management of solid and liquid waste in villages.

The Quiz competition was designed to raise awareness among the masses besides understanding of Sanitation and SBM-G Phase II, its importance in triggering behaviour change and desirable actions and practices for promoting ODF Plus.

Speakers reiterated the need for cleanliness and hygiene in our daily life.

Among others, the programme was attended by District Development Council Members, Block Development Council Members, Block Development Officers, and other concerned officers/officials besides students from various educational institutions across the district.
