Student leaders urge Nobel Laureate Yunus to lead interim govt after Sheikh Hasina’s ouster, India holds meet

DHAKA: Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin has said the current Parliament will be dissolved on Tuesday a day after Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to UK with military taking control of the country amid massive protests.

Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus will be the chief adviser to the interim government in Bangladesh, the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement announced on Tuesday.

Hasina on Monday fled the country and landed at the Hindon airbase near Ghaziabad where shw was received by National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval.

Hasina, 76, is seeking an asylum in the UK. Hasina’s sister Rehana, who holds a UK citizenship, also accompanies the leader. According to the sources, no confirmation from the UK regarding political asylum for Hasina has been received so far.
