JAMMU: Directorate of Economics & Statistics today organized one day training programme on Baseline Survey for Knowledge, Attitude and Practices (KAP) of citizens regarding Election process in J&K UT for the field functionaries of Jammu division under the patronage of Director General, Economics & Statistics, Satvir Kour Sudan.
The Directorate of Economics & Statistics, J&K has been assigned the responsibility of conducting the Baseline survey prior to the upcoming General Elections. The main objective of conducting Baseline survey (KAP) has been to understand the reasons for gaps in electoral participation, both at enrolment stage and voting; to understand the underlying reasons for low voter turnout and to identify the barriers to voting, level of knowledge and awareness among the voters about the electoral processes, questions related to minimum age of registration to be a voter, qualifying date for registration, National Voters’ Day, NOTA option, Braille on EVMs, and VVPAT.
The Director General, Economics & Statistics, J&K in her inaugural address emphasized on the importance of Baseline survey on KAP and highlighted that the survey shall be helpful in understanding the perceptions of people, both general and specific, about the elections, the electoral process and the initiatives undertaken by the Election Commission for enhancing the voter turnout for effective democratic governance. She expressed her trust that the field functionaries will collect reliable, coherent and quality data.
Joint Director (Surveys) in his welcome address highlighted that based on the findings of the Baseline Survey, the UT and district SVEEP plan will be finalised for General Elections. He encouraged the participants to take full benefit of training so that quality data could be obtained.
The training was attended by the Regional Director (Evaluation & Statistics) Sanjay Vashisht, Akhtar Hussain Qazi, Nodal Officer, SVEEP, O/o Chief Electoral Officer, J&K and District Statistics & Evaluation Officers of Jammu division.
