Secretary YSS compliments players, conveys best wishes

JAMMU: Reaching out to women athletes exclusively, J&K Sports Council organised Women’s Judo Championship in Kathua and Udhampur districts of Jammu division.

More than 500 female players drawn from different panchayats of twin districts participated in the events.

While congratulating the selected players, Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez, conveyed best wishes to them for success in the national tournament. He said that the sports training centers are instrumental in identifying and nurturing talent of young generation as they provide them with the necessary infrastructure, equipment, and expert coaching to realize their potential and achieve dreams.

“While the championship intended to ripple the aim and objective of organising such sports events in the district headquarters, J&K Sports Council is duty bound to come up with more such initiatives to promote the overall personality development of women and society as a whole,” remarked Secretary Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull while speaking complimenting the players.

Secretary Sports Council said that these training centers offer a safe and constructive environment for the children to channelize their energy, build discipline and develop their physical and mental capabilities.

It was informed that the Water Sports Centre for Excellence in Rowing housed in Dal Lake  Srinagar has started training under high performance coach Vikram Singh.  The center aims to produce athletes who shall represent the country at international competitions such as the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and the Olympics.

Besides, the trainees of Khelo India Boxing Center Poonch Zaffar Iqbal and Zaheer Ahmad have been selected for the Youth National Boxing Championship U-19 for School National Games.

The event witnessed a massive turnout of athletes, parents, and officials besides various sports activities like Tug-of-War, Rope Skipping, Kabaddi and Carrom.

The sports enthusiasts from the district also congratulated the selected players. They said that the Khelo India initiative in J&K has made a significant impact on sports landscape of the region by providing a platform for development of young and talented athletes. The training centers set up under this program not only promote physical fitness but also contribute to the overall growth of the children by fostering their socio-economic development, they maintained.

Also, the Srinagar district Rugby Championship commenced today in the newly set up facility at Polo ground, Srinagar.
