Sports Council organises Yogasana Sports event, free medical camp

JAMMU: The J&K Sports Council, in association with the local panchayat of Chatha, Health and Education department along with Malin Senior Citizens Association, organized a Yogasana event and free medical check-up camp for all age groups, here today.

More than 200 senior citizens and others from the adjoining areas of Chatha participated in the event.

Avtar Singh, the Sarpanch of the area was the chief guest on the occasion.

Appreciating the work ethics of the Secretary Sports Council and his team for planning and execution of such a colourful community event, he said that events like these not only help senior citizens stay mentally strong but its benefits amplify in physical domain as well, adding that sports has a vital role in eradicating the ill effects of drugs among masses, and it serves as an additional tool to instill discipline and responsibility in people.

The current government, led by Honorable Lieutenant Governor, is devoted to engage all sections of society in sports and games, particularly the youth of J&K due to which, we are witnessing a visible change in attitude of people towards sports and games,” he added.

Nirmala Chattoo, President of the Senior Citizens Association of MELAN, expressed her gratitude to all government departments who contributed to the success of the sports events. She stated that the event was also a wonderful way to spread the message of harmony, peace, prosperity, and fitness through sports. She also demanded that this community-based sports program should continue to reach as many people as possible.

Kiran Padwal, Principal Higher Secondary School Bhour Camp  Chattha, unfolded the aims and objectives of the event organized with the joint effort of the government departments and  systematized under the theme “sports for all ” and emphasized the need to organize such events regularly to inculcate the sense of fitness and moral  values for better living.

Earlier Ashok Singh, Divisional Sports Officer Jammu, highlighted the benefits of Sports Policy for seeking admissions in professional institutions and employment in government departments.

Among others present on the occasion included R.K Kakroo, Vice-President Milan senior citizen association , Pitambar Sharma, R.K Arora, Naresh Raj Sharma, Kuldeep Singh, Davinder Singh, Mukhtar Singh, Santosh Kumari  besides members of the Panchayat Chattha farm.

Meanwhile, a free medical check-up camp was conducted by a team of doctors and medical staff from the Health Medical department. The check-up included various tests and examinations, including blood pressure, blood sugar, and BMI tests, among others. The purpose of the medical camp was to raise awareness about health and fitness among the community members and to encourage them to take proactive measures for a healthy lifestyle.

The event organized by the Sports council turned out to be a huge success in raising awareness about health and fitness among the community members. The event served as a platform to connect with the people and understand their needs and aspirations.

“We hope to see more such events in the future that bring people together and promote a healthy and active lifestyle” said octogenarian Jasveer Singh on the sidelines of the event.

The event received an overwhelming response from the community members who participated in large numbers. The Sports council, along with its partner organizations, has pledged to continue organizing such events to promote health and fitness in the community.
