NEW DELHI: BJP members in the Rajya Sabha have moved a notice for breach of privilege against senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi for her “poor thing” remark against President Droupadi Murmu, demanding exemplary action.
The notice, addressed to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, accuses Sonia of displaying an “elitist and anti-tribal mindset” and failing to understand the struggles and sensitivities of tribal communities.
The MPs urged the chairman to take cognisance of the matter and initiate appropriate disciplinary action against Sonia. They stressed that such action was necessary to uphold the sanctity of parliamentary rules and reinforce the principles of decorum and mutual respect, which are essential for effective functioning of democratic institutions.
The MPs stated that Sonia’s remarks were “inconsistent with the established rules of conduct and parliamentary ethics and etiquettes”.
