SRINAGAR: Municipal Corporation (SMC), Dr Owais Ahmad on Friday evening visited Ghanta Ghar Lal Chowk here to oversee the city’s snow preparedness.

Speaking to the media persons, Dr Owais, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), assured that the SMC machinery is deployed in every ward, ready to respond as required.

“We were prepared for the snowfall. As of now, the snowfall is not heavy enough to require the use of snow clearance machines, but we are monitoring the situation closely,” he said.

The SMC Commissioner added that the roads would be cleared starting early morning. “We will manually clean lanes as well,” he added.

Dr Owais said that SMC’s focus will be on clearing vital roads, particularly those leading to hospitals. He further said that over 120 dewatering pumps are in place and are actively being monitored to prevent any waterlogging during the winter months.
