SKUAST-K organises Awareness programme on Minimizing Pesticide Use at KVK-Anantnag

ANANTNAG: An insightful awareness programme was organized today under the HADP Project No. 18, focusing on ‘Minimizing Pesticide Use in Agriculture’ and highlighting the critical importance of Orchard Sanitation.

The event was conducted at the KVK-Anantnag campus, bringing together over 100 participants, including farmers, orchardists, entrepreneurs, students, and other stakeholders from the region.

In his address, Dr. Ishtiyaq A. Khan, Head of KVK-Anantnag, emphasized the pivotal role of the fruit industry in supporting the local economy, pointing out that horticulture continues to engage a significant portion of the population. He highlighted the increasing adoption of advanced production practices, while stressing the importance of sustainable approaches to ensure long-term growth in the sector.

Dr. Khan also delivered a detailed lecture on ‘Scientific Orchard Sanitation,’ offering valuable insights into best practices for maintaining healthy orchards and preventing pest-related issues.

Dr. Tariq Rasool, Principal Investigator of the project, highlighted the utility of the project under HADP and delivered an enlightening lecture on ‘Minimizing Pesticide Use in Agriculture.’ He discussed the importance of reducing pesticide dependency through the adoption of advanced and sustainable technologies aimed at enhancing future fruit production. His presentation was well-received and sparked further interest in eco-friendly alternatives to traditional farming practices.

The programme concluded with a lively Question and Answer session, where participants engaged with the experts to clarify their doubts and discuss practical strategies for implementation in their own orchards.
