Dr Sehrish stresses on collective approach to eliminate Drug Addiction from Society

BARAMULLA: To mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the District Administration Baramulla under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner (DC), Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar today organised a series of events aimed to disseminate awareness about the ill hazards of drug abuse among the masses.

The activities held include Rallies, Drawing/Painting Competitions among other interesting and useful events.

As part of the celebration, a mega Seminar cum Work-Shop was presided over by the DC at Govt Degree College Boys Baramulla which was organised by the Social Welfare Department in collaboration with the Education Department and the college authorities. The event laid special thrust on educating masses about the menace of drug abuse in the society.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC highlighted the need of mass mobilization and awareness and termed the role of all stakeholders pivotal in curbing the menace of substance/drug abuse. Dr Sehrish further said that District Administration Baramulla has taken various initiatives in order to bring back and support the victims so that they can live a normal life again.

The DC also advised the young participants to work actively in their respective schools and Wards to help track the peddlers who are responsible for the growing numbers of drug addicts and substance abuse.

She further said that the observance of this day aims to raise awareness about the major problems that illicit drugs pose to the society at large. The main focus of organising today’s event is to spread awareness among the students, she added.

The DC also lauded the efforts of the Social welfare Department, Education Department and Youth Service and Sports Department for conducting programmes of huge social importance.

Meanwhile, the DC e-launched Nasha Mukht Panchayat Abhiyan on the occasion which aims to reinforce the campaign against the substance use at the grassroots level

The Seminar cum Work-Shop was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Zahoor Ahmad Raina; Principal Government Degree College Boys Baramulla, Chief Education Officer Baramulla, Social Welfare Officer besides a large number of students, teachers and other concerned stakeholders.

Later, the dignitaries distributed Certificates and trophies among the participants who performed at the event.

Similarly, the School Education Department in collaboration with Youth Service and Sports Department organized a series of events to observe International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in various High Schools and Higher Secondary schools across the various educational zones of Baramulla district.

More than 1050 students took part during the campaign. The aim of the campaign was to create awareness among students about the harmful effects of substance abuse and promote a drug free society.
