Secretary Sports felicitates winner, runners-up teams of LG Rolling Trophy semi finals

JAMMU: Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez, today felicitated the winner and runners-up teams of semifinal match of Cricket tournament under LG Rolling Trophy.

Earlier, Director Youth Services and Sports, Subash Chander Chibber declared open the match at Khelgaon, Nagrota.

Sarmad Hafeez was the chief guest on the valedictory function.

Speaking on the occasion, Sarmad Hafeez said that the Government was committed to promote sports in every nook and corner of the Union Territory. He added that J&K has witnessed a sea change in standard of sports and development of sports infra under present dispensation.

He said that the sports extravaganzas like LG Trophy not only help youth to showcase their sports skills but also guides them be active part of main stream and not to fall prey to drugs and other social evils.

While lavishing praise on the organising committee for holding the mega event, Director Youth Services and Sports said that LG Rolling Trophy (Cricket) involved around 42000 youth from across the UT in the year 2022-23.

Director said that the final match between the two teams of both the divisions will be played in the second week of March at MA Stadium, Jammu.

Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Doda scored a decent total of 157 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Mubarak top scored with 38 runs.

For Jammu, Abhishek was the most successful bowler, who took 3 wickets by conceding 35 runs in his 4 overs.

In reply, Jammu rode on a superb batting display by Satish Kumar and scored the required runs in 18.3 overs, losing 4 wickets in the process. Satish Kumar top scored with magnificent 45 runs.

For Doda, Baber took one wicket by conceding 22 runs in his 4 overs.

Talented batting all-rounder Satish Kumar was adjudged as the man of the match for his brilliant batting display. He was presented player of the match trophy by the chief guest.

Sarmad Hafeez also honoured players of both the teams on the occasion.

The match was officiated by a panel of experts of the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
