Sarita Chouhan reviews progress on Special Summary Revision in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: Commissioner Secretary, Labour and Employment, Sarita Chouhan, who is also Roll Observer for Srinagar district, today chaired a meeting here to review the progress on Special Summary Revision (SSR-2022) of Electoral Rolls.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, who is also the District Election Officer (DEO) was present on the occasion.

Commissioner Secretary took a detailed review of each Assembly Constituency with regard to target achieved so far under ongoing Special Summary Revision (SSR-2022) through Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign.

 She instructed the Electoral Registering Officers (EROs) and other Electoral Officials to conduct revision of electoral rolls strictly in accordance with the Election Commission of India guidelines and schedule with completion of the whole process within the given timeline.

 She exhorted upon the officers to take extra care while making additions of new voters and left out voters besides deletion of duplicate voters to avoid errors and completion of the process before the due date.

Commissioner Secretary directed all the officers and officials associated with SSR to work with dedication and zeal to complete the exercise in a time bound manner with 100 percent enrolment of all left out eligible voters.

She also stressed on registering young voters to provide the opportunity to exercise their franchise in forthcoming elections. She further stressed on conducting awareness camps in educational institutions particularly in colleges for mass sensitization of youth so that they become part of democratic setup and take part in electoral process.

Earlier, the DEO Srinagar apprised the Commissioner Secretary that all 902 BLOs have conducted door to door visits to enroll the eligible voters. Moreover, intensive SVEEP campaign has been launched in Colleges and Higher Secondary Schools to attract the young potential voters. Special emphasis has been laid on inclusion of various eligible marginalised and socially excluded groups in the voter roll to enable their participation in the electoral Process.

Among others Deputy District Election Officer, all Electoral Registering Officers(EROs), besides other officials from District Election Authority, Srinagar were also present on the occasion.
