RAMBAN: In a proactive move led by District Election Officer Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary, the District Election Office in Ramban has rolled out an extensive training and awareness campaign on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verified Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs).

Launched on December 15, the initiative has swiftly gained momentum, featuring EVM Demonstration Vans and dedicated centers at various levels.

This initiative has been taken as part of SVEEP under the close  supervision of Programme Officer, ICDS, Jahangir Hashmi, who is also the Nodal Officer, SVEEP. With a mission to empower citizens, especially first-time voters, the campaign focuses on demystifying the functioning of EVMs, fostering voter confidence, dispelling uncertainties, and ultimately promoting active participation in the electoral process. The EVM Demonstration Vans are currently traversing all 348 polling stations across both Assembly Constituencies in the district, aiming to enlighten voters about the nuances of EVM functionality and VVPATs.

Encouraging electors, including employees and the general public, to visit their respective polling stations or the Election Registration Officer’s office, the campaign provides a hands-on experience with the EVMs. Expert trainers are on hand to address queries, creating an interactive and informative environment.

Speaking on the initiative, Programme Officer, ICDS, Jahangir Hashmi, who is also the Nodal Officer, SVEEP remarked, “This commitment to an informed electorate aligns with democratic values, emphasizing transparency and citizen engagement. As the campaign unfolds, it marks a significant stride towards ensuring a well-informed electorate in Ramban District, contributing to a deeper understanding of the electoral process.”
