NEW DELHI: Former Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar was on Monday unanimously elected Kerala BJP chief.

Union Minister Prahlad Joshi made the official announcement after the election at the party’s state unit in Thiruvananthapuram.

Chandrashekhar, a former Minister of State for IT and Electronics, fought and lost the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha election against Congress leader Shashi Tharoor.

Chandrashekhar, 60, hails from Kerala and owns the state’s biggest news channel Asianet.

He faces an uphill task of expanding the BJP in the state where the party won its first Lok Sabha election last year when actor Suresh Gopi was elected.
