Quality of content, comprehension of tools crucial for impactful publishing: Experts

SRINAGAR: To assist researchers and faculty in the development of special skills for writing quality manuscripts, the Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA), Kashmir University (KU), organised a daylong workshop on ‘Authorship and Manuscript Writing: Techniques and Practices for Quality Publications’ here Friday.

During the workshop, researchers, scholars and faculty members from various departments and schools of the varsity received hands-on training by renowned experts who highlighted the various nuances of writing and publishing quality research papers, articles and manuscripts.

On the occasion, Dean Research, KU, Prof Irshad Ahmad Nawchoo underlined how some Nobel laureates made it so big by publishing precisely short articles instead of voluminous books “which demonstrates the fact that it is the quality which matters and not the quantity.”

“Due to its quality, a small write up or a research-based article can take lead over a 100-200 page book which again signifies how crucial it is to publish quality stuff and how important it is to comprehend and use techniques and tools involved in quality writing,” he added.

While providing an overview of the workshop, Head, Knowledge Centre Digital University, Kerala, Prof Gopakumar V, resource person/expert for the workshop, provided an insight into the overall processes required to successfully publish a quality research paper and article.

Director, DIQA, Prof Manzoor Ahmad Shah, said that the idea of the workshop on manuscript writing assumes contemporary relevance in the larger context of the rising expectations of the research scholars and the faculty in general.

“Writing quality research paper and manuscript is a skill and this skill we learn through experience, especially by interacting with those who have made immense contribution in this field and today’s discourse is one such opportunity to learn for our scholars and young faculty,” Prof Shah added.

He also summarised the key steps and considerations needed for quality publications.

Deputy Director, DIQA, Dr Ajaz Akbar Mir presented vote of thanks on the occasion while as Dr Javaid Ahmad Sheikh, Coordinator of the workshop conducted the proceedings of the event.
