Principal Secretary chairs State Level Armed Forces Flag Day Committee meet

JAMMU: In connection with Armed Forces Flag Day to be commemorated on 7th December, a meeting of the State Level Armed Forces Flag Day Committee was chaired by Principal Secretary Home, Chandraker Bharti here on Monday at Civil Secretariat.

Present in the meeting were Commissioner Secretary, GAD, Sanjeev Verma,  Divisional  Commissioner  Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri,  Secretary in Industries & Commerce Department, Smita Sethi, Director General Accounts & Treasuries, Fayaz Ahmad Lone, Director, Sainik Welfare Department, J&K, Brig. Gurmeet Singh Shan, Additional Commissioner Jammu, Naresh Kumar; Special  Secretary,  School  Education  Department, Kanta Devi,  Additional  Secretary  Home, Dr Sunil Sharma, Joint Director (HQ) Information Department, Vevaik Puri, Senior Superintendent of Police (AIG), Manoj Kumar while Kashmir  based officers  participated online.

Speaking on the occasion, the Principal Secretary said that 7th December is observed as the Armed Forces Flag Day to remind all of us to express gratitude as well as appreciation to the military personnel including Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen who valiantly safeguard the nation. He said that the need of the hour is to increase contribution through various means for Ex-Servicemen. He assured  the  Sainik Welfare Department that all necessary  steps would be initiated for welfare of Ex-military personnel.

The  Principal  Secretary  stressed  upon creating awareness  among the masses  about the Flag Day through  social media, electronic  media and other means to help raise funds. He directed  the officers for installation  of Q R Code on those tourist places where the footfalls of tourists is maximum.

He added that the contribution towards J&K Armed Force Funds is a symbolic gesture of our sentiments and evidence of our active and continued support to these brave soldiers. The fund facilitates number of welfare schemes being undertaken by the Sainik Welfare Department and the funds so collected are well spent on educational incentives besides mitigating economic distress of ex-servicemen, widows and their dependents.

Earlier, the Director Sainik Welfare briefed the meeting on the initiatives of the department. He informed that the Flag Day material has already been disbursed among all the Deputy Commissioners and Heads of Departments. He urged all the departments to strive and achieve the target set for collection of Flag Day Fund.
