Poonch: District Export Plan reviewed to optimise local potential

POONCH: Deputy Commissioner Poonch Vikas Kundal on Monday chaired a meeting of the District Export Promotion Committee to discuss modalities to optimise the export potential in the district.

The meeting was attended by the General Manager District Industry Centre , Chief Planning Officer, Chief Agriculture Officer, Chief Horticulture Officer, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, AGMO, Lead District Manager, Assistant Director Handloom and other stakeholders.

The discussions centered on developing the district as an export hub by exploring the global market for local specialty products.  The meeting sought to promote the Pecannut under the “One District One Product” (ODOP) initiative.

Additionally, strategy for promotion of other local specialty products such as walnuts, Rajmash and Chikri woodcraft was discussed in detail, including their cultivation areas, annual production, associated farmers, and available e-marketplaces.

The tourism sector’s potential to enhance the district’s economic landscape was also a significant topic of discussion.

Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner emphasised establishment of a strategic framework that includes enhancing the quality and quantity of local products, improving market access, and providing necessary support and infrastructure to local exporters. He highlighted the importance of collaboration with e-commerce platforms like Amazon to increase awareness and facilitate registrations for local products.

The meeting concluded with a commitment from all stakeholders to work diligently towards positioning Poonch as a key player in the export landscape, contributing to the overall economic growth and prosperity of the district.
