ANANTNAG: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoom today deliberated on the identification of works under Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY) at DC Office, here.
The meeting was attended by officers from Agriculture, Education, Fisheries, Flood Control, Ground Water, Health, Irrigation, Jal Shakti, R&B, PDD and Rural Development departments.
At the outset, Dr Basharat said that the scheme is very important for development of areas affected by mining activities. He said that these projects/ programs will complement the existing ongoing schemes/ projects and will mitigate the adverse impacts, during and after mining, on the environment, health and socio-economics of the people living in such areas.
The chair was informed that in the current fiscal, 46 works have been identified and incorporated in the district plan of PMKKKY at a proposed cost of Rs 311 lakhs. It was also informed that the majority of these works pertain to Ground Water, PDD and Education departments.
There were thorough deliberations on the progress of each work and any challenges to implementation.
The DC impressed upon the concerned agencies to ensure that works are taken up and completed within the stipulated time limits after the plan is approved. He further said that the focus should be on ensuring benefit to the whole community through the identified works.
He said that the works are meant for filling critical gaps and special needs of these areas and as such interdepartmental coordination at the plan formulation stage is essential.
The meeting was attended by JD Planning, CMO, CAO, ACD, Executive Engineers of various implementing agencies, DMO, ALC and DSW among others.
