NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his warm greetings to the nation on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab, on Friday. In his message, Modi emphasized that the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji continue to inspire millions, promoting values of compassion, kindness, and humility.

“Greetings on the auspicious occasion of Sri Guru Nanak Jayanti. May the teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji inspire us to further the spirit of compassion, kindness, and humility,” Modi wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, was born in 1469 in Nankana Sahib (now in Pakistan). His message of equality, service to humanity, and devotion to one God transcended religious boundaries and continues to be a guiding light for millions around the world. Gurpurab, the celebration of his birth, is one of the most significant festivals for Sikhs, marked by prayers, processions, and community service.

“May it also motivate us to serve society and make our planet better,” the Prime Minister added, reflecting on Guru Nanak’s timeless message of peace and social harmony.
