ISLAMABAD: At the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation meeting, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi made several accusations against India and tried to draw a parallel between Muslims living in Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir.
Qureshi, speaking at the OIC Opening Ceremony here in Islamabad, Tuesday, said that “The Muslim World is facing conflicts in Middle East, prolonged foreign occupier and denials of the right of self-determination, especially for the people of Palestine, Kashmir, and other countries.”
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister claimed that Pakistan’s main pillars are to promote solidarity and cooperation with the Muslim Ummah.
“As the Chair of OICCFM for 2022-23,” he stated.
He also highlighted global issues like the Russo-Ukraine War, Global Arms Race, Rising Commodity Prices, Declining World Trade and Growth, COVID-19 and Global Warming, Inequality and Other Conflicts in the Middle East.
“The Muslim World is confronted with conflicts in Middle East, continued foreign occupation and the denial to the right to self determination, most notably to the Palestinian and Kashmiri peoples”
The Foreign Minister stated that conflicts and disputes, if left unresolved, can undermine unity and solidarity between nations.
“(…) expose countries to foreign interference, intervention, fuel terror and extremism and deflect attention away from our development goals, the welfare of our citizens,” he stated during the meeting.
Qureshi also brought the OIC Foreign Ministers’ attention to three specific issues, “to help forge an collective response” under “Partnering in Unity, Justice, and Development.”
The OIC’s 48th Council of Foreign Ministers (CFMs), began in Islamabad earlier today.
This summit will be held under the theme “Building Partnerships to Unity, Justice, and Development.”
According to Pakistani media, more than 100 resolutions would be considered during the two day session. The meeting is intended to promote OIC efforts to Afghanistan. However, Pakistani media reported that over 100 resolutions will be considered during the two-day session.
