Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Govt College for Women buzzes with Baisakhi Celebrations

JAMMU: Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government College for Women Gandhinagar in collaboration with Tourism Department, Jammu celebrated Baisakhi with great fervour and gaiety.

The vast college campus turned into a carnival of dance and music bonanza as ‘Baisakhi Mahotsav 2023’ drew a heavy crowd with stalls and presentation of traditional items relating to the rich culture of Punjab and Jammu on display.

As a continuum of the Baisakhi fervor, the students of the College resorted to impressive show of talent during various competitions. The event began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Sunaina Sharma Mehta, Joint Director, Tourism, Katra was the chief guest,  while Ambika Bali, Assistant Director, Tourism Jammu was the Guest of Honour and Aamir Farooq, CEO Atlas Events, Srinagar was the special guest of the colourful function.

Prof Minu Mahajan, Principal, Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government College for Women, Gandhinagar, wished all a happy and cheerful Baisakhi and briefed the audience about the festival of harvest and  acquainted them with rich cultural heritage. She also reminded the audience of the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters in Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar.

Sunaina Sharma Mehta, Joint Director, Tourism, Katra congratulated everyone on the auspicious occasion of “Basoa-Baisakhi” and highlighted the significance and beauty of this cultural festival.

The faculty and students of the college were decked up in beautiful attires. On this occasion, the students as well as the faculty performed Bhangra, Gidda and Folk dance. The beats of the dhol brought vibrancy to the environment. Prof Harmeet Kour and Dr Kusum mesmerised the audience with a beautiful traditional Punjabi couple dance. “KJ Bhangra and Gidda Group Punjab” enthralled the audience with their energetic performance.

Dr Liaqat Jafri coordinated and Prof Neelam Thapa, Dr Chetna Mahajan, Prof Sugandha Mahajan and Prof Abhinav Sharma assisted in organising the program. Prof Neelam Thapa and Prof Sugandha Mahajan conducted the proceedings of the event. The colourful event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr Liaqat Jafri, Head, Department of Urdu.
