NEW DELHI: A controversy surrounding the recovery of cash from the residence of Delhi High Court Judge Justice Yashwant Varma has taken a new turn. The “fire report” prepared by the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) department makes no mention of recovering any cash from the judge’s residence.

According to the report, a fire broke out at Justice Varma’s residence on Tughlaq Road on March 14. The fire department was alerted at 11.35 pm, and two fire tenders were dispatched within a minute. The firemen took around 30 minutes to douse the flames and returned to the Safdarjung fire station, categorising the fire as “small”.

The report states that the fire was confined to a store room containing stationery and domestic articles, with no casualties reported.

The controversy erupted on Friday morning when reports of cash recovery from Justice Varma’s residence went viral. The Supreme Court collegium has recommended Justice Varma’s transfer to the Allahabad High Court, pending an in-house inquiry.
