SRINAGAR: To emphasise the potential of indigenous research and technologies in tackling contemporary challenges by raising awareness about the pivotal role of science in our daily lives, the Kashmir University’s North Campus, Wednesday organised a daylong seminar to celebrate the National Science Day.
The seminar, showcasing the achievements of Indian scientists, witnessed participation from individuals across various science disciplines, an official press release issued here read.
Each year, National Science Day carries a specific theme, and this year’s focus was on ‘Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat’.
On the occasion, KU Registrar, Prof Naseer Iqbal, emphasised the significance of National Science Day and highlighted the illustrious contributions of Indian scientists, notably Dr CV Raman, to the global scientific community.
KU Provost, Prof Aijaz Ahmad Wani, elaborated on the relevance of indigenous technologies in modern times, emphasising their potential for sustainable development.
Principal, Government Medical College (GMC), Baramulla, Prof Ruby Reshi shared insights on the significance of science in daily life and the contributions of scientific pioneers.
Speakers including Prof Shannon Olsson, Global Director, the Echo Network and Dr Raza Qazi, Meta platforms Inc. US, Prof Subham Badhyal from the University of Arizona, joined the session online, while as, Prof Saad Parvez and Prof Dinesh Rajendran (National Institute of Technology, Srinagar), Dr Sakib Ashraf Zargar (Energy Storage and Optimisation, Wartsila North America, USA), Dr Sheikh Ghulam Mohmmad, Director, North Campus, delivered their presentation offline, the release read further.
In his presentation, Dr Sheikh Ghulam Mohammad delved on decreasing the cost of patient specific cranioplasty and pedicle screw placement surgical drill JIG/guides using CAD/CAM, it read.
The seminar also witnessed active participation from students representing institutions like GMC Baramulla, Degree College Sopore, Degree College for Women, Sopore, and Degree College for Women, Baramulla, along with students from various departments of the North Campus.
Coordinator, Department of English, Dr Qazi Khursheed, conducted the proceedings of the programme, while Coordinator, Department of Botany, Dr Bilal Ahmad Mir, served as the organising secretary of the event. Faculty, Department of Botany, Dr Nazima Rasool, delivered the formal vote of thanks, the release added.
