GANDERBAL: District Administration Ganderbal today launched the Information Education and Communication campaign against drug abuse under Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir, with a mega awareness event held at the Auditorium Hall of Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS), Ganderbal.

The event was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore, as the chief guest. Among other dignitaries present were Additional Deputy Commissioner, Syed Faheem Bihaqi, District Social Welfare Officer, Deputy CEO, and a large gathering of locals and students.

The objective of the program was to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and promote healthy living, and engage youth in community building.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC highlighted the grave threat posed by drug abuse, particularly to the youth and their families.

Highlighting the ill effects of drug abuse, the DC said that the drugs destroy lives and once someone falls into the trap, it becomes very difficult to come out.

He emphasized that the campaign isn’t just about warnings or statistics, it’s about building a compassionate society that treats addiction as a health crisis rather than a moral failure.

Emphasizing the importance of empathy and support, he said that we must change our mindset towards addicts and need to stand beside those who are suffering and help them rehabilitate.

He maintained that the district administration is committed to making Ganderbal drug-free and our collective efforts should ensure this message reaches every nook and corner of the district.

The ADC, while addressing the gathering, pointed out that students, especially those in vulnerable age groups are most at risk. He called for collective vigilance, urging parents and teachers to recognize the subtle signs and take preventive steps before it’s too late.

The ADC implored students to act as ambassadors of the campaign and appealed to them to become our mouthpieces and share this awareness with your families and friends.

Resource persons from Education, Social Welfare and Health at the event also delivered informative sessions, educating the audience about the ill effects of drug abuse and sharing practical preventive measures.

The campaign aims to spread awareness, encourage rehabilitation, and mobilize community support to eliminate the menace of drugs from Ganderbal district.
