SHOPIAN: As part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ campaign of the government, a number of programmes against drug addiction were held across Shopian today.
The programmes witnessed overwhelming participation of students, staff and senior citizens who took pledge to fight against drug menace.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya attended the ‘Pledge Taking Ceremony’ function against drug menace at Mini Secretariat, Shopain in which staff of various departments took part.
A mega anti-drug rally was held in Shopian Town by the School Education department which was led by Chief Education Officer, Shopain, Mohammad Mushtaq.
Staff members of various schools, departments and hundreds of school children marched through the length and breadth of the Town, holding placards against increasing trends of Drug menace.
Similarly, IM GDC Shopian also held an anti-drug rally in the Town, which was led by Principal Bashir Ahmad Dar. Staff members of the College, students marched through the street holding placards denouncing Drug Consumption. The participants also raised slogans against drug menace and conveyed upon the concerned to take concrete measures against the ever-increasing scourge of drug abuse.
A seminar was also in this connection held in which the Principal of the College, impressed upon the students to remain focussed towards studies. Harmful ramifications of the drug consumption on society was elaborated to the students.
Various cultural programmes including short skits and speeches were delivered across the district to raise awareness against drug menace.
Pledge taking ceremonies were also held in these institutions to create awareness in the fight against drug menace in the district.
