BANDIPORA: To mark the importance of ‘International Day of Persons with Disabilities’ the Department of Social Welfare Bandipora on Tuesday organised a mega event at Auditorium Hall Kaloosa, Bandipora.
Chairman District Development Council (DDC) Bandipora, Abdul Gani Bhat was chief guest on the occasion. Vice Chairperson District Development Council Bandipora, Kousar Shafeeq; Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Bandipora, Mohammad Ashraf Bhat; President of J&K Handicapped Association Bandipora, Nazir Ahmad Lone, local citizens, specially-abled persons and other concerned were also present on the occasion.
The theme of ‘International Day of Persons with Disabilities,’ this year, was ‘Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.’
Addressing the gathering, Chairman DDC, Abdul Gani Bhat emphasized that it is our moral duty to support individuals with disabilities and help them unlock their full potential within society.
President of J&K Handicapped Association Bandipora, Nazir Ahmad Lone emphasized the need to highlight the ongoing struggles they endure and to emphasize the importance of creating an inclusive society where they are treated with respect and given equal opportunity.
ADDC said that this day is dedicated to raising awareness about the challenges faced by people with disabilities, as well as advocating for their well-being, dignity, and fundamental rights.
On the occasion, students from different educational institutions showcased a series of captivating cultural performances, highlighting their immense talent and creativity. The performances served as a stark reminder about the importance of inclusion and diversity, celebrating the unique abilities of each participant.
The District Social Welfare Officer said that the department aims to create supportive spaces that cater to the unique needs of persons with disabilities. He urged all the stakeholders to collaborate with greater commitment and enthusiasm to foster an inclusive and accessible environment for individuals with disabilities.
