Man arrested for allegedly murdering younger brother in Sopore

SOPORE: Authorities on Tuesday arrested a man for the alleged murder of his younger brother in Wadoora Payeen village of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

A police official, speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the arrest was made in connection with FIR No 02/2024 under Section 307 IPC, pertaining to the killing of a person at Wadoora village. He said investigations into the incident are currently underway.

The incident happened on Monday when a scuffle between two brothers, Abid Rashid Bhat and his brother Touseef Rashid, sons of Abdul Rashid Bhat, resulted in Abid sustaining severe injuries. Subsequently, a case was registered at the Bomai Police Station, a senior police official said.

He said Abid was initially taken to SDH Sopore for medical treatment and was later referred to SKIMS for further care. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday during treatment, the official said.

“The accused, identified as Touseef, the deceased’s brother, has been taken into custody. Section 302 IPC has been applied in the case, and investigations remain ongoing,” the official added
