DC inaugurates the tournament

PULWAMA: In a first, the Youth services and Sports Department in collaboration with District Administration Pulwama organised an ‘open night Kabaddi tournament’ at Pulwama HeadQuarters.

The tournament was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom in presence of a galaxy of officers from civil and police Administration.

The tournament is being organised under the banner of Nasha Mukt Bharat and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM).

Dist. Youth Services & Sports Officer, Pulwama, Jagdish Raj Sharma, in his welcome address briefed the chief guest and the other officers about the event to counter the Drug Menace and to involve youth in various sports activities. He further apprised that it is going to be the first experience for the department to organise such an event and more such events will be organised in the district in coming days.

At the start of the play an oath was also administered to team members, participants and officers present to make a resolve to avoid the usage of any banned substance and to make the district and nation drug-free.

Speaking to the player and a huge crowd of spectators, the DC said that it was a long pending demand from the common youth to organise late night events in the district and this is just a beginning and District Administration is planning to consider some other games to be played in such fashion. He impressed upon all to keep away from drugs to build a healthy society.

He while briefing the media persons said that engagement of youth and social organizations for sustained eradication of drug menace from every nook and corner of the district is the need of the hour. He further stressed on making efforts for youth lead development which will synchronise with the Youth Development.

People were highly enthusiastic and jubilant and have appreciated the department for organising such events and have requested the District Administration to continue sports tournaments for betterment of youth. They have further requested for organising events for other sports disciplines as well.

The event has attracted thousands of participants and people from all walks and ages to witness the historical beginning in the night events in the district.
