KVK B’pora organizes Training Programme on Soil Health Management

BANDIPORA:  The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bandipora today organized a daylong training programme on Soil Health Management for extension functionaries of the Department of Agriculture. 

20 Officials including Agriculture Extension Officers, Junior Agriculture Extension Officers and SMSs from ATMA participated in the programme. Dr. Nazir Ahmad Mir, Subject Matter Specialist Animal Science also participated in the event.

Dr Hilal Ahmad Malik, Subject Matter Specialist Agri-Extension welcomed the participants and briefed them about the programme. 

Programme Coordinator KVK Bandipora, Dr. Tariq Sultan delivered a detailed powerpoint presentation on soil nutrient management. 

He said that proper soil fertility is essential for achieving optimum yields and plant health. It is also critical for minimizing the costs of inputs like fertilizer or irrigation water, as well as for reducing the environmental impacts of production agriculture, he added. 

Dr. Tahir Saleem, Subject Matter Specialist Vegetable Science, while addressing the participants said that Healthy soil is the foundation for profitable, productive, and environmentally sound agricultural systems. 

He deliberated on soil processes that support plant growth and regulate environmental quality. 

He said that it is possible to design a crop and soil management system that improves and maintains soil health over time.
