GDC Purmandal organises debate competition for Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan

JAMMU: A debate competition on the topic “Is Bad Parenting responsible for Drug Abuse among the Youth” was held at Government Degree College, Purmandal today.

The event was organised by the NSS Unit in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club and Happiness Club of the college under the aegis of India’s G20 Presidency.

DDC Purmandal, Avtar Singh was the chief guest while Sarpanch Katwalta, Sapna Sapolia was the guest of honour.

Twenty students participated in the debate. The first prize was won by Lakshita Sharma of BA Semester 6th while Ruksana Akther of BA Semester 6th and Supriya Devi of BA Semester 2nd stood 2nd and 3rd respectively.

In his address, the chief guest urged stakeholders to create awareness about illegal drug use and prevention measures. Sapna Sapolia acknowledged the college Principal’s efforts in organising the programme.

Principal, Prof Dr Raj Shree Dhar spoke about fighting drug abuse through awareness campaigns and adherence to five pillars: drug detection, network destruction, culprit detention, addict rehabilitation and zero tolerance policy against drug abuse.

The proceedings were conducted by Nodal Officer of RRC, Prof Shahima Akhter. A formal vote of thanks was presented by HoD Dogri, Prof Dr Deepika Mehra. A pledge under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was administered to participating students and audience by HoD English, Prof Lakshmi Sohan.

The programme was coordinated by Prof Mohammad Rafi with support from other members of NSS & Happiness Club.
