GDC Kathua organised webinar on “Financial Literacy for You (FLY)”

KATHUA: Career Counseling and Placement Cell, Government Degree College Kathua, in Collaboration with Pension Fund Regulatory Development Authority (PFRDA), today organised a webinar on “Financial Literacy for You (FLY)”.

A large number of students and faculty members participated in the event. Webinar was inaugurated by the College Principal Prof. Seema Mir, as the Chief Guest and in presence of revered resource person Dr. Sanjay Kr Agarwal; Data Scientist and Trainer PFRDA, Prof. Anirudh Sharma; Head of the Department of Physics, Prof. Jaswinder Singh; IQAC Coordinator, Prof. Rakesh Singh; Convener, Career Counselling Cell & Head, Department of Chemistry, Prof. Romilla Gulleria; Head, Department of Music, Dr. Pankaj Gupta; Assistant Professor in Chemistry and Prof. Neha Mahajan, Head Department of Biotechnology.

Prof. Seema Mir, the Chief Guest of the event, in her deliberations stressed on the importance of such types of webinars for the knowledge enhancement of faculty as well as students. The Principal appreciated the efforts of Speakers, Conveners, members of organizing committee for taking this initiative of organizing this interactive webinar for students and faculty of GDC Kathua. Moreover, she encouraged all the faculty members to organize more such events for shaping the career of students.

Prof. Rakesh Singh, Convener of the webinar welcomed the Chief Guest, Resource person and all the participants. He said that the Career Counselling & Placement Cell of the college is continuously involved in organizing such types of awareness programs to help students in deciding a better future. He said that after attending this webinar participants shall become more responsible savers and investors. Moreover, they shall be ready for the real-life situations and shall be able to take decisions more independently.

Revered resource person of the event, Dr. Sanjay Kr. Agarwal, Data Scientist and trainer PFRDA, highlighted various investment schemes. In the interactive session, he made the participants aware of various pension schemes of the Govt of India such as Atal Pension Yojana, National Pension System etc. He further said that the foundation of financial awareness should be laid down early in the student life for a secure future.

Earlier, Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Assistant Professor in Chemistry and event coordinator emphasized that the main objective of this awareness program was to inculcate skills among the young minds so that they can become financially literate. He further said that such type of awareness sessions are very much required at the time when NEP-2020 is implemented in the UT and the “Financial Literacy” is projected as one of the subjects to be taught at School/UG level as per NEP-2020.

The webinar ended with an impressive vote of thanks by Professor Neha Mahajan, Head Deptt of Biotechnology.
