JAMMU: Fortis Escorts Hospital, Amritsar, has added another feather to its cap as it performed a yet another successful Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgery on 16-year-old patient Shine Salhotra, a professional footballer. Shine suffered a complete ACL tear and Anterior Lateral Ligament (ALL) tear in her left knee following a sports injury. Her movement was restricted, preventing her from training and playing football. After a thorough clinical evaluation, which included an MRI scan, Dr. Shukla confirmed the diagnosis and recommended an ACL reconstruction surgery along with Lateral Extra-Articular Tenodesis (LET). ACL reconstruction surgery involves reconstructing the torn anterior cruciate ligament, a band of tissue that connects the thigh bone to the shin bone in the knee, using a graft and restoring knee stability. The LET technique, performed alongside ACL reconstruction, reinforces the outer part of the knee to reduce rotational instability and prevent re-injury.
The surgery was performed successfully, ensuring knee stability and enabling Shine to regain her full range of motion. Three months post-surgery, Shine has resumed gym exercises, including squats, cycling, and running, without any pain. She is expected to return to professional football by the end of March 2025.
