KULGAM: A daylong training cum demonstration programme was today organized by Department of Fisheries, Kulgam at Trout Fish Farm Chancer under Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA).
The programme was attended by fish farmers of the district and a good number of unemployed youth.
Assistant Director Fisheries informed that the programme was aimed to disseminate the information regarding latest technological interventions being adopted in Fisheries sector like Recirculatory Aquaculture system (RAS), Biofloc etc and the farmers were advised to transform their fish farming units on modern scientific lines to achieve higher yields from their units with optimal input costs.
During the programme, participating farmers were made aware of the formation of Fish Farmers Producer Organizations (FFPOs) for harnessing benefits on cluster mode.
On the occasion, the progressive farmers also shared their success stories and advised the unemployed youth to adopt fish farming and other related activities to earn their livelihood with dignity and honour.
Practical demonstrations of fish farming activities viz. Hatchery management, Brood stock management, feeding and grading etc were also conducted.
During the feedback session, the farmers raised the importance of insurance cover for fish live stocks, upon which Assistant Director Fisheries assured them that it is under active consideration of the Department and Director Fisheries has already taken up the matter with reputed Insurance companies for the needful.
