DC leads stocking of more than 10k Rainbow Trout in Rambiara river at Dubjan
SHOPIAN: The Fisheries Department, Shopian today conducted a Rainbow trout fish stocking in Rambiara River at Dubjan in order to replenish / supplement the existing fish stock of the river.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar led the release of more 10,000 Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) Yearlings into the Upper Rambaira Stream at Dubjan.
These fish, artificially raised at the Mother Trout Fish Farm Kokernag, aims to supplement existing wild populations of fish contributing to the betterment of aquatic ecosystems along with fostering eco-tourism activities.
The stream has already established Trout stock and the anglers are visiting the stream every year for sport fishing.
Assistant Director Fisheries highlighted the positive results observed in the stream over the past few years, with increased angler visits for fishing.
The initiative aligns with the district’s commitment to promoting sustainable and eco-friendly fisheries practices.
ACR, Shopian, AD Fisheries and other officials from the Fisheries Department were present.
