NEW DELHI: The Election Commission is expected to announce the schedules for Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir elections today at 3 PM.

The EC has called a press conference later today springing a surprise by a likely early announcement of Haryana Assembly polls which were held in October 2019.

The ruling BJP is battling massive anti-incumbency in Haryana where the party has been on a spree to announce schemes, including plans to award job quotas to Agniveers. The Opposition has made gaps in the Agniveer scheme and the ongoing farmers’ agitation major poll issues in Haryana, where the BJP has been in power for ten years now.

The EC is also likely to honour the Supreme Court orders to conduct Jammu and Kashmir polls before September 30.

The EC held meetings with political parties in both J-K and Haryana recently.

In Haryana, the Congress is hoping to cash in on BJP’s anti-incumbency but is facing factionalism within.
