NEW DELHI: The Election Commission will on Tuesday announce the schedule for polls to the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
The Commission has convened a press conference at 2 pm on Tuesday to announce the election schedule.
The term of the 70-member Assembly ends on February 23, and elections have to held before that to constitute a new House.
Delhi has traditionally seen Assembly polls in a single phase.
The polls this year would be high stake with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party to defend its turf and an aggressive BJP to challenge it.
The Congress which has barely managed to perform even modestly well in the past two elections is expected to queer the pitch with a three-cornered fight in most seats.
AAP has announced ex-chief minister Arvind Kejriwal as its face and the BJP is grappling with leadership crisis.
The BJP and Congress are also yet to name all the candidates with AAP taking a strategic lead by announcing both candidates and poll sops well in time for the elections.
The elections will test the mettle of Kejriwal, who is on bail in the excise policy case.
The AAP supremo has said he will return as the CM only if cleared in the court of the people.
