SAMBA: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) on Wednesday hosted an interaction meeting with Dr. Puranjan Das, former Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR.
Speaking on the occasion, he emphasized upon the economic viability of the initiative being undertaken by KVK at farmers’ fields. He called upon the KVK to be a lighthouse for the farming community of the district. He elaborated upon the thrust of the Central Govt on the formation of FPOs, organic farming and cluster based approach to make the agriculture in India future ready.
Dr. Parvender Sheoran, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone 1highlighted the need for dissemination of the welfare schemes of the GOI to farmers’ doorsteps to ensure their utmost penetration. He emphasized upon the development of entrepreneurs in agriculture to realize the full potential of this sector. “The development of business acumen among the farming community is a must, so that they realize the full potential of their efforts economically” he added. He stressed upon designing and implementing various courses on agribusiness management for the farming community.
Dr. AmrishVaid Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu applauded KVK Samba for its efforts in improving the livelihood security of the farmers by reaching the far flung areas of the district.
Earlier, Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head, KVK Samba welcomed all the dignitaries and gave an overview of the activities of the KVK for the benefit of the farming community
Prakash Chand, Member Kissan Advisory Board and other progressive farmers of the district also shared their views during the programme.
Dr. Pawan K Sharma, Assoc. Professor from the Directorate of Extension also participated during the programme. Dr. Abhay Kumar Sinha and Dr. Vijay Kumar Sharma delivered expert lectures during farmers-scientists interaction.
Proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Saurav Gupta. Dr. Neerja Sharma presented vote of thanks. Dr. Shalini Khajuria, Dr. Amit Mahajan, Bharat Bhushan contributed for the successful conduct of this programme.
A publication of various initiatives undertaken by KVK Samba was also released. An exhibition depicting various initiatives of KVK for the welfare of the farming community was also organized during this programme.
