Sustained campaign launched in rural areas to end menace

DODA: District Administration Doda today organized an awareness programme, pledge ceremony, debates, and discussions to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Drug Trafficking here in Government Degree College.

The programme was chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Vishesh Mahajan along with SSP, Abdul Qayoom. The event at GDC Doda was hosted by the District Social Welfare Department under the aegis of Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyaan.

Stakeholders/speakers vouched for launching a sustained campaign to end the menace of Drug abuse, which has assumed alarming dimensions in the society.

Earlier, DC and SSP flagged off Prachar Rath (Awareness Van) from GDC, which will traverse across the district to sensitise the public about the disastrous consequences of drug abuse and ways to keep check on the perpetrators and prevent the vulnerability of the youth.   from the harm of the abuse.

The DC, while interacting with the participants, informed that the collective efforts of the stakeholders and PRIs have made 50 Panchayats as Drug Free Panchayats. He said that drug abuse, besides ruining the individual, also increases crime in the society. He stressed on developing a strong commitment among people to fight against the menace.

SSP also spoke on the occasion and emphasised not to observe the day symbolically but to take decisive and planned action with full determination to control the illicit trafficking and drug abuse before it is too late.
