RAMBAN: District Magistrate, Mussarat Islam chaired a District Road Safety Committee meeting to discuss road safety measures such as reducing accidents, creating awareness about road safety, safety audits and improving roads.
The District Magistrate reviewed the current status of National Highway 44 (NH-44) and directed NHAI to fill potholes on the existing highway and install signage to keep communities informed about the latest status of the highway. The DM also directed NHAI to control over speeding by taking strict action on violators in coordination with the Motor Vehicle and Traffic Police department. He instructed them to install CCTV cameras at vulnerable locations and ensure lighting systems are in place to tackle emergency situations.
The DM directed the Chief Executive Officer of Municipal Committee Ramban and Executive Officers of Municipal Committees Banihal and Batote to take action against parking in no parking zones and roadsides to decongest the roads. He also instructed the PWD and PMGSY departments to improve the condition of their roads and complete road safety audits.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer Ramban informed about initiatives taken to curb over speeding, overcharging, wrong parking, drunken driving, underage driving etc. on National Highway 44 and various link roads.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Harbans Sharma; Additional Superintendent of Police, Gourav Mahajan; Chief Planning Officer, Kasturi Lal; Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Samrinder Singh; Engineers from Public Works Department (PWD) and PMGSY; officers from National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and other committee members.
