District Administration Poonch Initiates Panchayat-Wise Anti-Drug Campaign

Drive engages community across all 11 Blocks  

POONCH: The District Administration Poonch has initiated a comprehensive IEC campaign against drug abuse with the launch of a Panchayat-wise calendar to address the pressing issue. The campaign was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal in Panchayat Bandichechian, marking the beginning of a series of events aimed at educating the community about the harmful effects of drug abuse.

Among others present at the launch event were  Additional Deputy Commissioner Tahir Mustafa Malik, Assistant Commissioner Panchayats Rakesh Sharma;  District Social Welfare Officer, Wakeel Ahmed Bhat, besides other officers.

Meanwhile, similar campaigns were conducted in all 11 blocks in collaboration with local leaders engaging over 1,500 participants. The speakers emphasized the detrimental impact of drugs on society and the youth, urging collective action to combat this crisis.

In his inaugural address, Deputy Commissioner Kundal   emphasized the shared responsibility in contributing to the campaign. He encouraged parents to monitor their children closely. He encouraged people to immediately report any drug-related activities to rehabilitation centers to achieve the goal of “Nasha Mukat Panchayat.” The campaign is set to run till July 2025, with a call for community involvement in making Poonch drug-free.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner highlighted the initiative as a crucial effort, stressing the importance of community vigilance in controlling drug abuse. The Social Welfare Officer highlighted the need for collective action, stating, “It is vital for us to eliminate drugs from our villages with everyone’s contribution.”

The Assistant Commissioner also listed the harmful effects of drugs and appealed to the public to actively engage in the campaign, which will take place every Monday in all 11 blocks until July 2025.

The District Administration has urged all citizens to join forces in this vital effort to eradicate drugs from Poonch and foster a healthier, drug-free environment for future generations.
