KULGAM: To observe International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking, the District social welfare department Kulgam in collaboration with the district administration organised a series of activities and events here at Kulgam.
On the occasion, a mini marathon from Chawalgam to drug deaddiction centre, flagging off vehicles carrying anti drug messages, were organised.
Besides a skit with title,” Aalaw” highlighting the importance of parental care and education in the prevention of drug abuse and cultural events were also performed.
Moreover, the painting competition and essay writing competition were also organised by the department.
A mini marathon race was organised in collaboration with the district youth sports and services office, In which almost 75 students of age group 15-17 years participated.
These activities were fallged-off of by the Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din-Bhat and ADC Kulgam Showkat Ahmad Rather.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Kulgam highlighted the importance of community intervention measures in the mitigation of substance abuse disasters.
In a felicitation ceremony trophies and medals were distributed among the winners of essay and painting competition.
In the mini marathon first three position holders were awarded with trophies while the first three runner ups were also given medals.
The certificates were also distributed among all other participants.
The programme culminated with the vote of thanks by district social welfare officer Snober Altaf.
She also said that the objective of organizing all these events programmes envisaged at to spread awareness regarding ill affects of drugs, its consumption and trafficking.
