AWANTIPORA: Dr N. Zaheer Ahmad, DG CCRUM, Dr M.A Qasmi Advisor (Unani) Ministry of AYUSH, GoI, Dr Younis Munshi, Deputy Director accompanied by team of scientists from Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicines and Dr Naseer hakim visited IUST and discussed scope of research Collaborations.
An interactive meeting, chaired by Vice Chancellor IUST, Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, was held with the visiting team wherein ideas were exchanged. The team was run through a presentation detailing the initiatives taken by IUST with regard to AYUSH.
Vice chancellor said that IUST has established a Centre of AYUSH sciences with a focus on research for validation of existing formulations and further explorations. He also said that as a part of Institutional Social Responsibility, an AYUSH dispensary to cater to IUST students and Staff as well as local community has been set up where daily OPDs are held and with the support of the Directorate of AYUSH sciences J&K, free medicines are distributed.
He said that at IUST an interdisciplinary approach towards research is encouraged and in pursuit thereof, a number of Research projects have been submitted. He stressed that there is huge potential for entrepreneurial ventures in the AYUSH and said that the efficacy of traditional medicine systems stands well established.
Dr Zaheer Ahmad in his address gave an overview of the reach and importance of the Unani Medicines across the globe. He said that in collaboration with WHO, standard terminologies and benchmark practices have been evolved, which reflect on the role of Unani medicines in the mainstream healthcare system. He assured IUST support and collaboration for research.
The meeting was attended by Dean Academic Affairs IUST, Dean Research, Registrar, Dean School of Health Sciences, Dean School of Sciences, Coordinator AYUSH and other scientists and researchers.
