Director Agriculture visits Vegetable SMF Gangbug

SRINAGAR: The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal today visited Vegetable Seed Multiplication Farm (SMF) Gangbug, here.

During the visit, the DC inspected different blocks of the farm and interacted with the concerned technical experts.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director said that for the last two years the department is working on a road map aimed at transforming the departmental farms into model installations of seed production for different agricultural crops.

He said that departmental farms are the models for a common farmer therefore all the efforts are being ensured to transform these into the centers of excellence for seed production and other agriculture activities.

Iqbal said that keeping in view the agro-climatic condition of our region, department is working on a multi faceted blue print of modernizing departmental farms on scientific lines so that they could not only be self reliant in terms of safe requirement of the farming community of our region but to export seed of different agriculture crops to the other states of the country.

Departmental farms have to play a key role in the overall development of the agriculture sector and to attract more and more educated youth towards the agriculture and allied sectors, he added.

Director agriculture appreciated the efforts of the staff of vegetable SMF Gangbug and asked them to carry on this commitment for their future endeavors.

Later, the Director kick-started rabi seeds sowing operations in the farms.
