JAMMU: Director Agriculture Jammu, S. Arvinder Singh Reen today visited the State Seed Testing Laboratory to initiate the first seed sample trials for the Rabi 2024-25 season.

The trials are being conducted in the Grow-out field adjoining the laboratory and involve a variety of crops, including Wheat HD3226, Gram GNG217, Pea AS10, Oats Kent, Barley Kalash, Knol Khol King of Market, Radish Mino Early, Berseem Muscavi, and Turnip Purple Top, among others.

The primary objective of these grow-out tests is to enhance seed quality assurance and ensure genetic purity by allowing precise cross-analysis of seed samples in real field conditions.

The trials will help verify the results of laboratory tests by observing seed performance under natural environmental factors, paired with the seed testing laboratory.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director stated that these grow-out tests would provide real-world performance data, simulating the diverse environmental challenges that seeds face in the field. This comprehensive approach will help ensure seed quality assurance, ultimately benefiting the farming community by providing access to the best quality seeds and improving overall agricultural production.

Director was accompanied by Sectoral Heads, Seed Analyst Gopal Krishan, SSA Sohnika Rani, JAEO Punamjit Kour, AEA Sanjay Razdan and the staff of the State Seed Testing Laboratory (SSTL).
