SRINAGAR: Director Tourism, Kashmir, Fazlul Haseeb today felicitated ace cyclist Adil Teli who has achieved a feat to enter Guinness Book of World Records for his record time of covering Leh-Manali cycle track.
Adil, a resident of Narbal in Baramulla district, cycled from Leh to Manali in a record time. He peddled the high altitude and arduous path from Leh to Manali – a distance of 470 km – in 29:18:21 hours, thus breaking the earlier record set in 2020 by Bharat Panu who finished the track in 35 hours, 32 minutes, and 22 seconds on October 11, 2020.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director Tourism said the Department is keen to provide a platform to young adventure lovers and appealed to the youth to come forward in honing their skills.
He said the Tourism Department has prioritized adventure sports and many major initiatives like opening new trekking and cycling treks, new adventure activities, rafting and other water sports activities have been added to the attraction of tourists. He said many more such interventions would be made in coming times also.
Senior officers of the Tourism Department besides many adventure enthusiasts were present on the occasion.
In his address, Adil Teli thanked the Department for sponsoring and supporting him. He said without the support of the Department achieving such a feat would not have been possible for him.
It may be recalled here that Adil’s Leh to the Manali cycle yatra was sponsored by the Directorate of Tourism Kashmir and the cycle rally was flagged off from TRC on September 09, 2022.
