PULWAMA: The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Pulwama, Baseer ul Haq Chowdhary today distributed motorized tricycles to 18 Differently abled persons belonging to BPL category and having more than 40 percent disability in lower limbs.
The camp was organized by the Social Welfare Department at DC Office Complex Pulwama. DSWO Pulwama, besides all officers/officials of the Social Welfare Department were present on the occasion.
While interacting with specially abled persons, the DDC complimented the Social Welfare Department for organizing the distribution camp for Specially Abled Persons. He said motorised Tricycles will empower the people with special needs and would include them in mainstream life. He added that the mobility of the specially challenged people would be pivotal in earning sustainable livelihoods without inconvenience.
The DDC asked the DSWO to organise more programmes in near future for creating more and more awareness among the general masses.
Enumerating various objectives of the schemes, the DDC said that such awareness programmes would help in ensuring empowerment of women through education and equal participation in all fields.
It is worth mentioning here that the Motorised Tricycles were sponsored by J&K Rehabilitation Council, a Government organisation which is at forefront in the empowerment of persons with disabilities.
