KUPWARA: District Development Commissioner (DDC), Kupwara, Doifode Sagar Dattatray today inaugurated Solid Liquid Waste Management shed (SLWM) at panchayat halqa Herri in presence of Assistant commissioner, Panchayats, Kupwara ; BDO Herri Qadirabad and concerned Sarpanch . The project costs Rs.8 lakh will cater to 261 households of Panchayat halqa.
The DDC on the ocasion said that kupwara district has a vast tourism potential for local as well as international tourists, adding that there is correlation between cleanliness of area and Tourist attraction. He emphasized that it is our prime responsibility to keep the district clean and plastic free . Meanwhile underscoring the importance of day as is being celebrated as birth anniversary of Father of Nation M.K.Gandhi & national stalwart Lal Bahadur Shastri, the DDC highlighted the principles & teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, on this that Swach Bharat mission was launched in the country. He assured that under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Grameen 2nd phase solid and liquid waste management systems will be placed in all Panchayat halqas .
While addressing the general public regarding solid waste management, the DDC said that waste generation can be turned into wealth if processing of waste is done viz Segregation of waste at generation point.
To kick-start the process on ground ,dustbins for wet & dry waste were provided to household heads on spot .Also People were made aware of scope of revenue generation and employment of youth under the initiative. As a part of the unit Recycle heroes were identified and necessary tool kits ,uniform and tricycle were distributed among them by the DDC Kupwara for door to door collection of waste and transportation to processing point.
