4000 students from different schools shortlisted for imparting Technical training under SANKALP

SRINAGAR: To discuss the modalities for finalizing the Skill Development Action Plan (SDAP) for conducting Short Term Courses and Placement Drive under SANKALP(Skill Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion) Scheme, a meeting of the District Skill Committee (DSC) was today held under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner(DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad here at Meeting Hall of the DC Office Complex. 

At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner asked the Officers of all line Departments to prepare a comprehensive Action Plan for Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness of Youth of the District under SANKALP initiative to provide opportunities to skilled human resource to earn sustainable livelihood.

 The DC held a detailed discussion with all the stakeholder Departments and stressed that the objective of the plan should be to upgrade the skill set of the youth by imparting quality and market relevant training to them, strengthen the institutional mechanism with modern technological trends for skill development thereby ensuring timely placement to create ample opportunities of employment for the unemployed youth of the District.

 The meeting discussed the various aspects related to the District Skill Plan and also held a detailed deliberation with regard to the initiatives being taken for the socio economic upliftment of Artisans of Srinagar District and rejuvenation of the traditional and heritage craft by providing Market Interventions.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner called for involving all line Departments in the process for gap analysis and emphasised on the need to capacitate more people with skill of varied trades in Technical Institutions to meet the technical human resources, besides generating ample opportunities of employment for the local youth.

The DC asked the Departments of Horticulture and Agriculture Departments to submit the detailed lists of 20 youth each to KVK so that they are imparted short term training courses under SANKALP.

 Similarly, the District Social Welfare Officer was also asked to provide a list of 20 specially abled persons to encourage them through training under SANKALP to make them able to earn their day to day livelihood with dignity.

 The Assistant Director, Handicrafts was also instructed to identify 20 Artisans who will be given training to enhance their skill set as per the current market needs.

While interacting with the Copperware Artisans of the District on the occasion, the DC stressed them to adopt modern technological interventions in order to upgrade their skill set of traditional Copperware Craft with innovative design techniques in sync with changing market demands and widening the ambit of market linkage to uplift their socio-economic conditions.

The DC stress on launching awareness among the Artisans including traditional copperware manufacturing & designing craftsmen regarding different Government schemes and directed the concerned Departments to reach out to the target population of the District so that they are benefited from such schemes. In this regard, DC asked for holding a joint awareness camp for the Copperware Artisans by DIC, Handicrafts, Banks and other concerned Departments at the earliest.

Earlier, the Director Indian Institute of Carpet Technology, Principal Institute of Hotel Management and Principal ITI, Bagh-i-Dilawar Khan briefed the DC about different measures undertaken by them and targets achieved under SANKALP scheme in Srinagar District.

It was given out that  4000 students shall be imparted Technical skills under different trades in District under SANKALP.

The meeting was among others attended by Director, IICT, Chief Planning Officer, Principal IIHM, Chief Agriculture Officer, Principal ITI, Bagh-i-Dilawar Khan, Chief Education Officer, Chief Horticulture Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, Assistant Director Handicrafts, Principal ITI Bemina, Lead District Manager, Functional Manager DIC, MGN Fellow, Srinagar, Representative of and other Offices from the concerned Departments.
