SHOPIAN: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Faz Lul Haseeb today presided over the District Cooperative Development Committee meeting at Mini-Secretariat here to discuss measures for development of the cooperative sector in the district.
Deputy Registrar Cooperatives, Muzaffar Ahmad gave an overview of the present status of cooperative societies in the district and efforts taken by the department to revive and strengthen the societies.
It was given that there are 158 registered cooperative societies in the district which include PACS, Dairy & Fisheries societies, marketing societies, apex societies and societies in other agri and non-agri sectors and efforts are on to give them required support for their upliftment and fillip.
The DC urged the cooperative department to prepare a holistic development plan for the societies in the district and focus on increasing membership.
He further directed the concerned officials to make efforts to revive the handloom and handicraft societies for strengthening cooperative movement in the district.
He urged for assessing the financial/credit requirement of the PACS and exploring the options of mobilising the financial support from apex institutions like NCDC/NABARD/NDDB/NFDB.
The DC also reviewed the progress of adoption of model by-laws by the PACS, computerization of PACS, updating of data in the national cooperative database.
He enjoined upon the line departments to collaborate with the cooperative department to link their schemes to enhance the livelihood opportunities for the rural populace.
The meeting was attended by Lead District Manager Shopian, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, General Manager, Anantnag CC Bank and other concerned.
